At Studio Louter we create unforgettable museum experiences, focusing on narrative-driven content design. We’ve worked for leading museums and institutions inside and outside the Netherlands for more than 15 years. Our recent project, 'The Ship of Dreams' at Titanic Belfast, reimagines the Titanic story. While this story is one of great loss and sadness, there is also another perspective: one of hope, ambition and determination. This human quality of dreaming big became the core of the narrative and presentation techniques.
Since the opening in 2012, Titanic Belfast has welcomed over 6.5 million visitors from 145 countries, contributing £430 million to the local economy. Together with Opera Amsterdam we were assigned to an ambitious refresh that would ensure Titanic Belfast’s appeal to a next generation. Later on, Shosho joined the team to produce the multimedia.
Our objective was to enrich the profound narrative of the Titanic with depth and emotion. Using our Emotion Design method, we created a meaningful visitor journey, inviting guests to delve into the dreams and stories of Titanic’s passengers and builders through authentic quotes, archival materials, and seldom-displayed artifacts.
An immersive show featuring a suspended, rotating, illuminated Titanic model alongside dreamlike projections and an emotive soundscape, engages visitors in the hopes and dreams of those built and sailed Titanic. Telling the untold stories, bringing the emotion to the fore and making it truly immersive through new technology - putting a beating heart into the visitor's journey.
