How do you make 2000 years of German history tangible for young audiences—and all in under two hours? As a Dresden-based film and interactive design studio, ravir film was given the unique opportunity to answer this question when we were invited by museum director Robert Rückel to conceptually and technically design the Deutschlandmuseum in Berlin.
Our goal was to transform the idea of a “stuffy” museum into an immersive, interactive 4D experience. Visitors are invited to see, hear, touch, and even smell the past—walking through animated medieval towns, exploring panoramic battlefields, or stepping into a divided Berlin. The experience seamlessly blends filmed scenes, 2D and 3D animation, interactive artworks, shadow play, and Pepper’s Ghost illusions.

Creative Studio Berlin contributed the initial conceptual framework. Before animation and filming could begin, our team conducted extensive photo and archive research, developed storyboards, and wrote scripts for animated sequences—always in close consultation with historians to ensure historical accuracy and narrative clarity. From there, we worked closely with our trusted network of experienced animators, sound designers, graphic artists, and museum specialists—many of whom we’ve collaborated with for years—to develop and implement the full design in just three months.
Despite the tight timeline, the collaboration ran smoothly thanks to a well-attuned team and clear communication. Our aim was to create a cultural space that combines the educational depth of a museum with the immersive appeal of a theme park—making history engaging and accessible for all generations.
