SHORT ANIMATED FILM "THE EVOLUTION OF TELEPHONES"

In 2023, the Museum of Post and Telecommunications, which is part of the Technical Museum of Slovenia, launched animated film workshops led by curator Ajda Kozjek and mentors Andreja Goetz and Lene Lekše from the Slon Association. Partnering with Polhov Gradec Primary School, the project aimed to inspire creativity through modern technology while showcasing telecommunications history.

Pupils aged 10 to 14 created a stop-motion film titled The Evolution of Telephones, highlighting key milestones from manual switchboards to smartphones. Using authentic museum artifacts as props, students animated the technological and social evolution of telephony, bringing history to life through creativity.

Over more than 20 hours, participants developed skills in animation, storytelling, teamwork, and media literacy, deepening their understanding of how communication technology transformed society. The project stood out for its engaging portrayal of telephones’ evolution, blending youth creativity with digital media in an educational setting.

Collaboration between educators, museum staff, and animation mentors empowered children as active content creators rather than passive learners. Although time constraints posed challenges, the enthusiasm, precision, and dedication of all involved led to an inspiring result.

Most importantly, the process counted the most. This was a student film—not a professional production—focused on learning, having fun, and socializing in the participants’ free time. The project fostered a positive environment where children gained valuable skills while enjoying collaboration and creativity.
