Museums Victoria are the largest museums organisation in the Southern Hemisphere, based in Melbourne. We are custodians of over 15 million collection objects and welcome over 2 million visitors each year and around 11 million visitors to our digital channels each month.
Science is a Superpower is a modular online video series designed to build interest and confidence in STEM amongst young women, girls and non-binary students that portrays science as relevant to their own lives and aspirations. To date 10 episodes have been released on YouTube and another 180 videos have been created for release across other social and online channels aiming to reach as broad an audience as possible, including the parents and teachers of our primary audience. These videos were designed as a link through to a content rich website where the viewers could keep ‘sciencing’.

This #keepsciencing call to action was integral to the design of the project. Research has indicated that for our audience the best way to keep them engaged in STEM is to give them pathways into developing a STEM based hobby, that then becomes a pathway further study.
This project is atypical for a museum project being a project that began as a digital offer that has since broadened out to become on onsite offer as well, reversing the typical pathway for museums. Science is a Superpower has achieved over 3.2 million video views since the release of series one in February 2023.
